Salt Lake Flurry — Open Tryouts Think you’ve got the game to compete at the next level? The Salt Lake Flurry are hosting public tryouts, and this is your chance to earn a roster spot on a traveling, competitive pickleball team. Players will have the opportunity at this tryout to showcase their skills to be evaluated by Flurry Management. Register for the try-outs today, spots are limited and expected to fill quickly! The Salt Lake Flurry are proud to be the first Utah-based team competing in the Ultimate Pickleball League (UPL) — a national semi-pro league built around community and player development. For more information about the league visit ultimatepickleballleague.com and follow them on social media platforms! How the UPL Roster & Match Format Works: UPL teams are built using a tiered rating system, and every match requires contributions from each tier Each match lineup consists of: 2 “A” players (5.25–5.49) 2 “B” players (5.0–5.24) 2 “C” players (4.0–4.99) At least 1 woman Matches will have an "A" match, "B" match, "C" match, rotating doubles rally game, and rotating singles rally game. Because of this structure, strong players at every level are essential, not optional. The Salt Lake Flurry will select 10 total players for the 2026 season, with the following target composition: 3 “A” players 3 “B” players 4 “C” players At least 2 of the 10 players will be women Because roster spots are allocated by tier and gender, tryout capacity is limited. Registration will close once available spots are filled. Season Commitment: Players selected from tryouts will compete with the Salt Lake Flurry during the 2026 UPL season, traveling for matches from March 21 through July 8, 2026. Every other weekend, regional matchups will be within 300 miles of SLC. The league commissioner has assured me that most of the matchups will be located in Salt Lake City, with occational travel within the 300 mile limit! Any travel expenses for travel outside of local SLC areas will be covered by the team! If you are selected for the team, there will be NO extra upfront cost for players outside of the $30 try-out fee. Players will also have opportunities to make money and aquire sponsorship deals throughout the year in connection with the team! Tryout Requirements: Rating minimum: 4.0 Rating maximum: 5.5 Open to all genders Willingness and availability to travel during the season Note: Players up to 5.6 will be allowed to register, but all players must be between 4.0 and 5.5 at the time of try outs to be eligible for the team, UPL has a strict no players above 5.5 policy. This is a rare opportunity to earn your spot on a semi-pro pickleball team and represent Salt Lake City amateur pickleball on a regional and national stage! Try-outs will be January 31st or February 7th @ the Kaysville Kitchen from 3-6 PM. You only need to register for ONE of the two dates, not both. ❄️ Bring the heat, embrace the Flurry! ❄️
